About the project
The number of tourists visiting Iceland has increased dramatically in recent years, and ISAVIA has placed strong emphasis on digital infrastructure to serve this growing group. KEF Airport is a community hub for everyone working and doing business at the airport—such as aviation professionals, staff, and customers of restaurants, shops, and more.

Robust digital services lay the foundation for a smoother airport experience, enhance the feeling of security, and help prevent queues and other delays. The goal is to improve simplicity and access to information, ensuring that travelers can move through their journey with ease.
Discovery with design thinking
From a design perspective, we approached the project with a user-centered mindset, focusing on a clear, accessible, and modern experience for users of the KEF Airport website. The project centered on simplifying the site structure, improving access to information, and ensuring the website meets the needs of diverse target groups—including travelers, staff, and others who rely on airport services.
Our goal was to create a digital experience that enhances the feeling of safety, reduces pressure on service providers, and supports the increasing number of travelers. Drawing inspiration from best practices at other international airports, we shaped the design to offer smart solutions, intuitive navigation, and a visually engaging layout that effortlessly guides users to the information they need.
Technical approach
From a technical standpoint, our focus was on ensuring that the new KEF Airport website would be both powerful and flexible in operation. We emphasized clear information architecture, fast content delivery, and scalability to meet the diverse needs of users. The website was developed using modern web development methods, with responsive design to ensure optimal performance across all screen sizes—whether users access it via desktop or mobile devices.
We also prioritized better data utilization by exploring ways to collect and analyze usage data effectively. As a result, the technical design of the site was shaped to be future-oriented and secure, with a strong focus on efficiency and ease of maintenance.

Participation in the development of the new KEF Airport website was an incredibly rewarding experience. The collaboration with ISAVIA was outstanding, and together we were able to create a website that has received well-deserved recognition in the web industry. Seeing the site win Website of the Year at SVEF confirms the hard work and passion we put into the project. This project demonstrates how much can be achieved through collective effort and a clear vision for the future.
